The hospital was the pioneer in introducing the hip resurfacing arthroplasty in Kerala for arthritic patients below the age of 55 years. Some of the routine surgeries carried out by our specialists include:

Paediatric Orthopaedics

Paediatric orthopaedics handles the treatment of any bone, joints or muscle problems faced by children of all ages. In many cases the treatment plan for children is different from the ones carried out in adults for similar conditions. This is due to the fact that children are still growing and the body’s response to any musculoskeletal problem may be quite different from an adult for the same problem. Congenital deformities in certain cases can resolve with time or may need to be surgically treated. Working in tandem with the paediatric general surgery specialists and the paediatric tertiary care centre of the hospital, the department offers the best orthopaedic care for children and adolescents. Some of the cases routinely handled are:

• Deformity corrections in limbs and spine noticed at birth or later in childhood
• Leg lengthening and shortening surgeries
• Limping and other gait abnormalities
• Broken bones
• Infections in bone or joints
• Bone tumors

Polytrauma and mass casualty management

Polytrauma or multiple trauma is the medical condition where a person is subjected to a number of traumatic injuries, such as a head injury along with other broken bones at the same time, as in the case of accidents on the road or in the construction worksites. In most cases, such a situation warrants an immediate response from an orthopaedic surgeon to handle such life threatening emergencies.

As a pioneer in the region for handling accident and emergency cases for the last 30 years, we have an excellent support system to handle most cases of trauma and mass casualties.

Equipped with excellent operating suites and surgical intensive care units, the orthopaedics department along with the general, neuro and maxillofacial surgeons of the hospital offers 24×7 emergency support to trauma patients. Inter – locking nailing, which involves the insertion of rods through bones without opening the fracture site, has been in practice here for long bone fractures since 1994.
